Our Role

Do we humans understand our role in life? Sometimes I wonder. It seems that we are in the role of selfishness. People must remember that greatness only happens when people do things together. We have to learn from the mistakes and the rights things that happened in the past. Do you know someone in your life that you could learn from-or maybe even someone who has recently passed away. How can YOU pass on your hard found knowledge to the younger generation?Build on the opportunities that are presented to you no matter how small they might seem. Let us ALL strive to have big shoulders to hold up the next generation in order for them to continue the American Dream!!
CAN we part of something bigger than just us? I am striving for this. How about you?

Thought for the week

Isn't it AMAZING that we humans are on earth?
Sometimes I feel that people in general tend to forget what is means to be here on earth, We tend to be very hard to impress. Let us try to watch the sunrise, take note of the days passing, even if it isn't especially special for you, the day could be SPECIAL for some else.
Watch out for the after effects in life when everything is ho hum--boredom, gloom. Let us think about human potential and the miracles of nature that are all around us.
I am hoping that these ideas might be of help to me and others who might be having some hard times.

Booster for health at work

Since a person who works full time spends many hours at the job, it does make sense to be aware of little ideas that might make one feel better and be more productive. Of course this is not an original idea, but I have been reading articles that deal with this. Here are some thoughts:

Get up and move. MAny people who do not have physical jobs, tend to just sit all day. So move around ever hour or so. Take the stairs, get some fresh air. Stand up and touch your toes, do push aways from your desk, pick up the big packs of paper. Give yourself a little neck and shoulder rub. Do not be afraid to use the tried and true stress ball routine for your hands and arms.

Mental: is also part of your health. Do not miss this area.
Word puzzles. I for one have a hard time with crosswords puzzles but love word searches.
If you have an office, try rearranging once in awhile. Draw something that you find intriguing. Deep breath!
STAY out of the chair when possible. Hold walking meetings. Use a cordless or cell phone and walk around as you talk.
Watch your posture by maintaining good posture and doing some posture exercises against a wall.
When possible chat person to person instead of phone or e-mails.
Only takes a few minutes a day to make all the difference in your mental and physical emotions during a day at work.
If you think of any other great ideas that you do to help yourself at work. POST.

Your own Health

I find that I am very guilty of paying attention to my loved ones health and problems and not be aware of my own body and health. Part of my new year resolution is to pay attention some more to myself.
PREVENTION is much better that cure. It is said that a person has a better rate of survival when you can stay well, stay out of the hospital and do things for your health before one is sick.
Pay attention to the basic everyday health of your body. Get check ups and base line charts, so that you and your doctor will know when things have changed. Let us not pay the price of illness just because we fell to busy to help ourselves.

Secrets of adulthood

I found a very clever outlook on adulthood in The Happiness project that I mention last year.
This is my version of this--feel free to add to this in future posts
I believe that people really do not notice our mistakes as much as you think.
Ask for help if you need and also for directions.
Do good as often as you can and feel good about it.
Do a little bit every day and you will get the task accomplished
When you can not find something you are looking for (CLEAN up), the items usually turns up.
You can choose what you do.
You do not have to be good at everything.
Happiness is not always the answer
Over the counter medications often work
What's fun for other people might not be fun for you.
LOVE this one- People do prefer you buy wedding gifts off the register
NO deposit, no return
Turn the computer off and on-might help the problem.

Add some more and we can some with this.

COMFORT Foods

Many people tend to turn to food for comfort-myself included. This is a habit that is created when we are young.
COMFORT: a conditon or feeling of pleasurable ease
FOOD: a substance you consume to produce energy

Check out these foods that I have read about that are suppose to good for you..
Yogurt-less fat than ice cream but has the same type of taste-you can even add fruit to this great food.
Fruit smoothie. Good for you and for your sweet tooth craving.
Chicken noodle soup-a very old wives tale but still true today. Very easy to make, or purchase but watch the sodium amounts
Angle food cake
Oatmeal--is this the new wonder food? Not sure but it is sure good and good for you.
Vegetable juice
Crock pot creations: easy to create and saves time. It seems that almost anything can be turned into a slow cook meal.

Do any of you guys have a comfort food?

Value of Time

Are your days busy with worry, stress, work and complaints? For my 2011 resolutions, I am going to try and limit this part of my life. Good luck right!! While in the midst of this life that is yours, we often realize to late that TIME is very valuable. Your life really is just a blink of an eye. Why don't we all try to stop and be present in your life. Enjoy the small moments-a cup of tea, reading talking to friends, doing a hand project...."whatever might make you happy". Try to time manage better but do not obsess. Stop being a procrastinator and enjoy! This is only life that God has given us. No matter what your problems may be, enjoy a little of it.

Calcium does your body good

or so my Dr says. I went for the bone density test and found a small amount of thinning. My Dr wants me to take suppliment Caltrate with D and try to add calcium in the food category.
I was playing around and found a good article that gives some alternative to dairy products.
When cooking veg stir fry ad tofu made with calcium sulfate.
Add steam minced GREENS to casseroles and soups.
Use calcium fortified non-dairy milk like soy or rice milk.
Molasses in your oatmeal
Almond butter instead of peanut butter
Use calcium rich beans like black-eyed peas. to soups, salads etc.

When using a supplement choose a brand you trust.
Look for the symbol USP which means it meets the Pharmacopoeia standards

WATCH out for supplements made with oyster shell, bone meal or dolomite which might contain toxic substances. (this is from the article--don't know to much about these type of additives)

Some added point to keep our bones healthy deal with reducing sodium, eat veggies of all kinds,
don't overdo on protein(this one I did not know), EXERCISE.
The weight bearing exercise is your best bet to make them strong.
Don't forget the D. That was the point of the new supplement that I was instructed to take.
You can get D from food sources also. Keep that in mind: cod liver oil, salmon, tuna, fortified breakfast cereals and the SUN. Keep the sun exposure short because one is not suppose to use sunscreen. Ten to fifteen mints max.

Happy New Year

2011 is here..ready or not. Hope everyone had a good holiday. With the huge snow storm on the coast, I wound up with two extra days off. They where fairly productive days of cleaning and organizing.
I want to start off by taking inventory of gifts and blessings.
For a NEW YEAR resolution, I spent some time thinking about the good things in my life. I was hoping this thinking might help me with some of the depression I am feeling. In this century, one can experience more in a month that our ancestry did in a lifetime. Just stop and think about this a moment.. I want to change my attitude to thinking what is right with the picture than what is wrong. What are your priorities? I am trying to enjoy some of the moment and love ones. We have been given the gift of life. Accept this gift and be worthy. This is my resolution. TAKE the time to smell the roses, as the old saying goes.
