Winter allergies

I am afraid, that we all seem to have them. The library where I work just received a new heating system and we are all still feeling the process, with the sneezing, eyes.UGH. Most likely the mold and dust mites.
Just finished a quick what to look out for article that I wanted to pass along.
Store wood outside for your fireplace
Watch out for the mold on the fresh cut tree and wreaths that you are bringing in this time of year
Clean your decoration!!! YEAH right.we are just glad to get them out, but I understand the concept
Air filtersystem. This one I have been really considering
Remove as much carpet from your home-sometimes not particle but efficient if possible
Cover your mattress, pillows etc. Wash blankets every two weeks in HOT water
WORK with your DR. There are meds that really do help control the suffering.
So here we go again with another year. Hope these suggestions might help.

Choices

I feel that Americans just have to many choices, especially the children we are raising. Not even sure if they appreciate anything. Trying to expain to the youth that they need to own the choices, seems to be process also. Do these choices determine the path for the rest of ytour life. YES, my friends they really could. This is not set in stone but be aware. Look at the life path..are you happy...or do you want some change? Be awawre of your short and long term goals.. Make the choices that will help with these goals and dreams.

Holidays

Here we are folks two weeks till Christmas. Went to my last craft show over the weekend. It's a sad time of year for the craft show fans.
My four year old grandson spent the night-which turned out to be good. He is a lot of fun and was so good.
Am sending out cards, hoping that I will have some followers to my blog. It is more fun when people respond and conversations are progressing.
Hope holidays are going good for all. Can be stressful, so watch out and do some deep breathing my friends.

Blessings

I am doing a sort of thinking exercise this week or so. Join in and add some thoughts. This is the time of year when one does tend to count blessings and be thankful.
you are blessed if you woke up this morning with more health than illness
more blessed than those won't survive the day.

You are blessed if you have never experienced the danger of battle
the loneliness of imprisonment or the agony of torture.
Just think of this war that is still going on and the solders who are dying every day for our freedom. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers every day.

IF these thoughts are touching you, please respond.

Strengths

YES, gang we all have them even tough I think most humans feel like What ME!!!
Take some time to think about what these strengths might be. Sometimes I think it is easier to see what is wrong with ourselves as well as others. Are you a negative person? seeing to mush of the bad instead of the good. Get off that band wagon..you will feel so much better.
Too much negative effects your attitude, your opinions of yourself and others. Let's try to keep a healthy, positive attitude of the things we like about ourselves and about the things we can change. USe your strengths and special knacks to improve yourself and learn new task.
This new powerful attitude will bring around the the lesser task and bring them along the road to fulfillment.
Lets go girls and guys. Positive POWERFUL strengths "HERE WE COME"

Use zippered covers
Wash blankets sheets etc in HOT water
Watch out for the down comforters, and feather items
Keep your rooms are dry as possible (especially the bedroom).
Remove carpet if practical or vacusmm daily or least ever other day.

Animal Dander
Bath and brush animal frequently
Keep pets out of rooms that you most frequently use

Minimize Mold

Use dehumidifiers
Clean show curtains, tiles and grout frequently
Use interior paints that might contain an added mold inhibitor

Install air filtration
Dry clothes in dryer rather than hanginf outside
As you can see there are ways to help with these allergy attacks and also medicine if they become completelu inbearable.

Good Things

I wonder if we as a shuman race have forgotten how to be appreciative to what God has provided for us! What do you think?
Are you kind of blinded by the past when looking at good in front of us? Take a look around you..your life, your goals, your future. Build on the good that you are doing in your life. When we focus on the bad things that happen, or the slips we do, life just passing by. Look for the silver and you might even find the gold.
We need to live each dday not dwell on the past failures or mistales.
Go for life!!

Sleep loss Weight loss

From sone articles that I have been reading, it seems that the nights I am roaming around not sleeping are also affecdting my ability to loose these last 10 lbs. Vewry interesting Right?
There seems to be a hormone that is rrleased when a person is stressed. When we do not sleep this hormone continues to relase making us feel hungry.
When we do not sleep, we do not get the deep sleep that our bodies need for the growth which in turn efffects the ability to lose fat. What---have to do some more research on this.
Loss of sleep leads to increased storage of fats at a higher level therefore increasing the blood sugar. Not good people.
Lack of sleep--lack of energy--lack of burning calories!!

Now can your understand WHY we need SLEEEEP?
Here are a few Do's that I have found to help me:
Eat healthy
Exercise but not right before bed
Pre-bedtime rituals..you did them with your own children or they where done for you when child warm bath, calm music, the bedtime story??
Peaceful sleep area
Sleep instead of squeezing more into your day

Eat if hungry but a very light snack. The goal ofcourse is to sleep and reduce the stress that comes with not sleeping.

de-stress

Yeah right!! but I am in desperate need and so is my daughter, so I am trying desperately. Because ofcourse when one is stressed, usually one will EAT. BINGO...there goes the diet.
Try some of these hints and send some others, if found any that help you.
Try to be proactive with stress. Do not let it build and then hit you with a punch.
One of the ways, I am trying to help is keeping a food journal..not only of the food I am eating but the triggers when I want to bing.
Try some meditation massage or yoga.
Try some message boards that might be of help-blog, use the website Spark people, Talk to friends and family.
STAY grounded...stress might not be the real reason that one is reaching for food. It could be an over reaction to what is going on around you. Think about these options when your button gets push:
DEEP breaths; count to ten, remind yourself where you are by looking around, naming some colors or objects.
Notice some sensations that might be feeling-tension in hands or jaw, breathing, stomach.

Reality
Remember that life as well as dieting is not an "all or nothing" process. Bing to day, start again tomorrow.
Read your won thoughts..not others. Don't waste time by getting down on yourself--be positive
Other people--this one is so me.
I have to remember that I can not fix other people's problems, especially my children. This only adds to my stress and to my eating. They are capable of handling their own.

Perspective: no mountain out of molehills.
Think How big a deal is this really.
Do I have all the facts? Am I making assumptions. Check things out before you act and try listening instead of reacting.
Break problems down into manageable portions.
Control what you can and let the other items goooooo.!
SOMETIMES all this might take is a quick three minutes..other times might be more. The results are well worth any effort. What do you guys think?

Finding Time

Found this great article that hit the core for me and I am sure for many others. Often people say that do not have time to eat healthy..but one really does. Just change your though process and make it a priority.
To continue the weight loss process you need to have good food available and a healthy attitude
At the beginning of the week take some time to think through your week-meetings, lunchtime, cooking time. Then try to plan the healthy meals that will be the easiest to prepare according to your schedule.
Market time consider the healthier choices. Fresh greens and fruit that is already precut and cleaned. Frozen prepared means that are the lowest in sodium, fat etc-check the labels.
In some cases, one can call ahead at the local market to order their deli choices. Now it is even possible to order you whole weeks worth of food on-line and have it delivered.
Use your slow cooker, and your microwave.
When you do cook, if possible double the recipe and then freeze in containers for a meal latter in the week.

Exercise: yes all, I am sorry to say that we still have to keep moving. Our bodies are made to move, walk, run, workout, to keep us healthy.
Think about meetings or outings at bowling alley, park, swimming pool. GET RID of the "all or nothing attitude" .Ever little bit of movement that you do during the day is a plus.

STRESS Yes my friends stress is still with us, everyday. It can lead to muscle tension, less sleep, and chronic illness.
One of the easiest ways to help relieve stress is breathing. Stretching is also good, and of course
getting enough sleep. Do not skip sleep. Try to stay on a schedule to get at least 7 to 8 hours a night. Our bodies need this to keep the mind active and alert so one can cope with the day to day.

great book

Ann Hour to live, and hour to love from the author of the (small stuff series).
Grerat book, very short but profound.
'The big question With only an hour to live who would you call? Think about this. Many discussion could come of this:
I would call my three girls but they would probably be with me, to tell them how much I love them and how proud of them I am and always have been.

Health by Chocolate

Most of us are loving this new research. Saw a program on TV and wanted to get some info. Saw an article in Natural solutions magazine April 2010and condensed it.
The plant for the dark chocolate contains more than 700 compounds. WHAT?? The research is finding that dark chocolate is heart-healthy and can be cancer fighting.
'Cacao comes from a fruit or the seeds of a fruit tree. Check your labels to find the purest form of the beans-look for single ingredient .
Purest form in the Cacao nibs-natural form contain no sugar- taste fruity
Dark chocolate: Look for highest level of cacao in the source..then low level of sugar vanilla and soy.
Cocoa powder: is very old, discovered in 1828 by a Dutchman when he invented a press to remove cocoa butter from the beans. Look for natural to get the most out of the cocoa powder.
Some ideas..dark chocolate, fresh fruits and organic nuts;;
Cocoa powder sea salt as a rub or added to chili, stews.
So try some of these products and see what kind of effects you might have.

Power foods

What is POWER FOODS..according to Sparks writer Z VANhart..these great additions to our menue are low calorie, hig nutrient foods that keep a person satisfied. I am sure all of us realize the key to eating healthy and is not being hungry all the time. The mopre efficinet we eat the more one will lower the calorie intake. RIGHT

At the top of the power list PROTEIN, fiber and whole grain carbs. Below are some examples. If you have any more ideas please post.
Grains: whole wheat, oatmeal, pita, bagels brown rice, whole rye
Fruits Veggies: oranges, berries, apples, wtermelon, spinach sweet potatoes and tomatoes
Drairy/Protein: low fat/skim milk, yogart, salmon, tuna, chicken, almonds, peanuts, beans, eggs

Not heard to add to one's diet or continue to eat with more knowledge. So enjoy your power foods.

salt-salt-salt

How I love my salt. Can not believe the things I use to eat with salt. IT is going to get me one day. BUT I have turned my ways around. Even found some hints to help with the salt intake that is already in food without the additions that AMerican's use. And just in case you did not knows this less salt intake will help reduce your changes of getting some disease.
Don't get me wrong, all the experts say that the human body does need salt; however we get more than enough without adding a pinch more. This might an adjustment periiod if one seriously starts to cut the sodium. Our taste buds might be a little taken back...but stick to it.
Try some other add such as herbs, spices. Cut the salt in half from recipes or leave out.
Make healthier choices--stay away from processed foods..read the labels.
LOW_FAT or low calorie doesn't always mean healthy.Because of the flavor, they can be higher in sodium.
CHOOSE low, no, or reduced version of soups, frozen meals, canned foods.
FRESH is best but frozen is aalsok especially over canned. IF using canned run under cold water to rinse off the some of the salt.
FAST FOODS-one would think that Americans run of this. Not good way to much- salt

AS we continue to try to eat healthy, just keep the salt intake down to the lowest level possible. You and your loved ones will be happier and healthier.

Think yourself thin???

Not sure about this one but I thought the concept was worth noting. An article by a trainer gave me some ideas to think about and hopefully put me out of this little rut I a have developed.
Mind over body: SELF talk..positive thinking. Your mind has the ability to tell your body that you are done REALLY before your body feels the effect of fatigue.

MANTA: I am strong, I can do this, I will be fit, etc. Keep repeating these phrases over and over while working out, walking running (whatever). Positive repetitions keeps one focused and inspired.

VISUALISE: I find this one of the hardest things to do in all aspects of life. Visualise the exercise before you start. I'm having fun, being fit, loosing weight. This is working..the body is getting thinner, I am getting healthier. I will reach my goal. TEE HEE..sounds kind of corny but if one can wrap the mind around this idea..it will work. It's all about attitude.
Since mine has been rather lately, I am reaching for the positive and trying to go with the flow. A very hard concept to handle.
"THINK YOURSELf FIT"

ACTIONS

I think I must be on an action and result kick. Guess because my new well laid plans are not working so well lately. I seem to keep finding articles on doing something, and things that might happen or not happen with action.
Think we all need to remember that everything one does makes a difference. A leader or a follower-makes not difference, it is the action that matters and the effort. It is hard to imagine, that the world does need the actions of others. REMEMBER that the smallest action has an effect on someone else. DESIRE, purpose, perspective, put these all together and watch what might happen. You can become the task, the contributor - the big picture in the family or the work place.
There is room in the picture of life for all of us. Get in there!!!

OLD English Rhyme
For want of a nail
the shoe was lost.
For want of the shoe, the horse was lost.
For want of the horse, the rider was lost. For want of the rider the battle was lost.
For want of the battle, the kingdom was lost.
AND all for the want of a nail.

Thought this was well put even in these days.

USE your park

Hey remember the equipment that was installed in parks across American three or four years ago? Did you know they where meant to be used by all and are FREE? TEE HEE. Yes friends what a great friend these equipment could be. Have you used any of them.
PARKS ARE Your friend. Walking, riding bikes, Frisbee. How about a game of tennis or pick up softball, soccer.
How about the jungle gym? Try the hiking trails, maybe roller blading. Does the park have water use?--canoe, kayaking, maybe even swimming.
It's just nice to be outside to enjoy the solitude or the companionship that the parks can offer.
The park gave give one a time for peace, aloneness or place to meet a friend.
The PARK as a treasure to be discovered.

9-11

After watching all the coverage on 9-11, I was very sad but also very encouraged. Americans have not let that event keep us down. Still, I do not think that it has help to many us grow-up either.
Was very heartning to see the interviews from survivors as well as the spouses and children. Many things have occurred during the ten years. Many not for the better.

I did think that the coverage showed some people finding victory in small things that are happening in their life and trying to make it by to normal for the suvivors.
You know that the dreams that where onced had have changed drasickly. MAny people talked about how they had to changed the thinking, the planning of their lives and the others envolved with them. Many people had to watch their goals change or slow down. Be joyous in the small victories, they seemed to be saying to all of us. NOTHING is guaranteed in life. Small things in life can build up to be bigger and better than you thought.

Americans will not forget, but will move on..

Emotions and body

I think we all know that there is a link between feeling healthy and feeling happy. When a body is feeling under the weather, we understand that feeling happy really does not happen. Everthing goes out the window so to speak..who cares about goals, diets, just get me better.
This why I continuously talk about taking care of our God given bodies--right food, rest, strong bones and muscles and POsITIVE emotions.
I know that I have not been getting enough exercise and my mind and body are feeling this.

My youngest daughter is dealing with a very persistance health problem dealing with joints and pain. This is draining for her as well as the rest of the family. Whatever it is does not seem to be getting better and no diagnoses either. Very hard to keep a positive attitude with all this going on. I am trying as well is she is.. Being a real trouper.

Luxuries

How grateful are we for the God given luxuries that we sometimes seem to take for granted. THINK about this a moment... and think about others in the world that have so little. It becomes eye opening.
Clean water or even just water.
Food of any kind
Clothes to put on your back
A job

Cherish what you have in your thoughts today and tomorrow--freedom, family healthy body and choices. Never know when this could change.
We are living in a very uncertain world with a government that seems to be going insane.
Give thanks my dear friends for each other and keep the faith.

Life choices

Sunday's church message was about this same idea-the choices we make in life. Is someone trying to tell me something? BUT I do not know what!
Take responsibility for the choices you make in life. You are the force that impacts the reactions around you. Do not blame the world-your choice of actions to what life is giving you creates the force . Be your own cheerleader-control your emotions. Pep talks are good-positive thoughts to the universe. Enhance your personal development and growth.
Come on ALL, we can do this. As the minister said "sort of" make the choice to be proactive in living the Christian life and spreading the word."
OK guys the challenge is out.

Sugar and salt

GOAL get away from the sugar and salt--you body will benefit. Heard this before right?

I love sugar but it does not love me.
causes energy up and won can add to health and weight problems. Watch out for the hidden sugar which can be just as dangerouss as the cokkies and cakes. Hidden sugar can be found in bread, soups, canned vegs pasta, instant anything fast food etc.
>avoid sugsar drinks
>eat naturally sweet--fruits natural nutty butters
LABELing cane sugar
honey-molasses
brown rice syrup
fruit juice
maltodextrin, fructose, dextrose, sucrose

SALT-where is the salt?
cause of high blood pressure--limit to 1,500 per day..WHAT close to impossible

Avoid processed pre-packaged
?What what you order when eating out
Fresh over frozen nd especially canned.

Watch the snacks (oh how I love my snascks)
start slowly by going to low salt first and going slowly to getting off completely..

calcium

Calcium the essential body building blocks for for bone health for both men and women(learned this in my on-line class).
Eat the calcium, limit the foods that delete the calcium stored. Don't forget the magnesiuim and D and K. This is one time that supplements can be of a help.
Try these foods for good sources:
Diary--mild yogart cheese
Veggies and green... leafy green ones....squash, green beans asparagus
Beans: black beans, pinto , kidney white beans..
How are you guys at this kind of eating? Keep it up-very important.

10 minutes of you time!!

What is this you ask if you ? Especially if you are a mother.
This is a concept that can keep a person sane, make you feel better and even get something done.
Can you think of what you might want to do in 10 minutes?
Close your eyes
Walk a short distance
CALL a friend
Enjoy a snack AWAY from your work area
Send an e-mail
Prepare healthy breakfast (which people seem to skip the most)

pray or think positive thoughts!
Let us all try this, might be of help to our health and physic.

"carpe diem"

Don't you just love the move and play Lion King. I did. How can we apply this to our life?
Work hard and focus on what youwant will increase the possibility of gaining your dreams. We must make the most of each day by cherishing asnd celebrating the moment instead of of thinking ahead so much. Stop thinking so much and DO!!!. I just did this the other day by getting a different haircut. Nothing earth shattering but have been putting off the change. Sieze the opportunities while one can.
Go for it Whatever.!!!

healthy superfoods???

Found a great article in family circle. That it was very interesting andwanted to shasre. I try eat some of these on a daily bases which I imagine we all do. So enjoy the upgrade on ideas..
Strawberries, grapefruit, redbells pepers, mixed greens, kale, spinach---natural disease fighters with the mix of fiber, vitamins, minerals.
Fish fatty especially omega acids-twice a week so they say.
Asparagus/organge juice..thought this was an unusual paring..Folate Vit B
Potato salad. WHAT!! rich in vit c and fiber for heart health...and when cooked high amounts of resistanch starch increases fullness and might help lower heart disease. Mis with LOW fat mayo or yogart for healthier dressing.
Guacamole: loaded with monounsatureated fats which reduce heart disease...along with this is salsa. Provide a serving of veggies Vit c and the phytochemicals also..
Basil: great herb which allows one to use less salt and MIGHT make platelets less likely to stick together.
Promegranite juice high in antioxidents

Oils, olive and canola
Wheat germ....do not hear so much about this latetly but it is a great additive to yogart, cereal, puddings anything like that Vit E With this also WHOLE wheat pasta, bread and cereal. FIBER linked to lower cholestrol plus Vit E and magnesium . along the same lines OAT. soluable fiber

Protein

While I have some time, let us move on the protein. Since I am trying to remove most meats from diet, protein has become a challenge. Protein does give the body energy, essential for cells, tissues and organs, so a person can not completely eliminate protein. THAT IS BAD...
So how about trying different types of protein--seeds, nuts, tofu and soy peas, beans.
From an organization called helpguide org, I found some guidelines that I have been trying to follow to keep my protein levels up.
BEANS: black, navy, garbanzos and lentils
NUTS almonds, walnuts, pistachios and pecans
Soy: tofu, soy milk, veggie burgers
avoid salty or sugary nuts..
DOWNsize your protein portions, especially red meat--add more whole grains, vegetables.
Remember fish, chicken turkey are your friends especially hormone free when possible.
So eat on friends and keep up the good fight.

Fats

The good and the bad. Funny thing to have but a group of people where having a debate over fats at the pool on Sunday. (ARE we bored?) No just old. Anyway!!
Had some good discussion that I thought might pass on..
A persons body does need good healthy fat to nourish brain, heart and cells.
So let us think about what are good fats monounsaturated fats from plants oils, avocados, nuts and some seeds (pumpkin and sesame). The lower cholesterol and LDL.
Polyunsaturated fats including Omega;s can be found in fatty fish, unheated sunflower, corn, soybean oils.
The point is to try and introduce these into your diet and keep them going.
REDUCE the saturated fats found in animal sources and whole milk diary.
Trans fats found in vege shortening, some margarine, candies, cookies, snack foods, baked goods and of course fried. So just be aware and be wise.

Setbacks

My daughter and myself have had quite a couple of weeks dealing with all KINDS of setbacks. She is finally getting better and hopefully back to whatever can be normal. Keep us in your thoughts and keep the GOOD KARMA going we need it.
With this in mind I found an article on dealing with setbacks. Everyone has setbacks..HOW do you deal with them? Despair? spin out of control? Steer yourself back to goals?

Let us be one of the "bounce back" people(sparks) Take responsibility when necessary, but watch the blame game. Seek advice if needed.

Do some reevaluating and retooling goals, outlook, whatever you are dealing with.
Don't forget the rewards...be especially good to yourself during these times.
Don't give up or harbor regrets.
A poem by Emerson:
"Finish each day
And be done with it
You have done what you could
Some blunders and
Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can"

HEY a great way to live don't you think? Keep positive and leave yourself in God's hands.

Energy boosting

Can you get some added energy by eating the rights foods? YES, I believe anyway.
I read a couple of articles that agree and have listed some of the top foods. What foods help you guys keep it going?
MORE frequent smaller meals to keep your sugar levels even--first and foremost..
Whole wheat pasta
Oatmeal
Fruit smoothies
peanut butter
Dried fruits
Yams
Beans
Apples
Carrots and chickpeas--I am beginning to put chickpeas into anything I can think of.

Eat breakfast#1 idea for eating for energy
Avoid grease
Whole grains--keep this your brain
Iron-energy boosting mineral

Cutting calories

We are talking about shopping, recipes and now calories. Reember we are on a healthy eating plan not a diet. However, a person does need to cut calories and exercise, no matter what we are planning.
Don't eyeball-love this one. Do you under estimate how much you really eat? I do, so I keep a food journal. A record of what I eat during the day and when and even why.
Read the food labels
Watch size at home but especially when eating out. Order small and or wrap half to go.
Measure out the snacks and then put away the bag.
Buy the single serve proportioned if you are having problems.
HOLD THE FAT: fat has more than twice the calories per gram (WOW) think about that. Be conservative. Use herbs red peppers, sea salt, skimp on the butter, dressing and creams.
Fruits and vegetables are your friends-high in volume, fiber and nutrients.
WATER WATER through out the day. Watch the soda, fruit juices and alcohol.
REMEMBER these are ideas that help me and hopefully might help you. I am sure you have read them before, I just like to repeat and repeat..

Meal planning

Guess it is about time to think about actually planning one's meals, since we are all eating better.
ORGANIZE key to the list and the planning.
Keep a list on the fridge-when use item, put on list..put new items from new recipes on the list
PLAN meals: OK, I know this is as hard one, especially for the working women. Look at schedule-busy week, think quick, don't forget the slow cooker, how about left overs.
Coupons (good way to save and plan). Eat in the season..plan around the local growing season which also saves money.
Gather your recipes for the week or two so you know if you will need anything unusual.
Shop with your list, and when you are not hungry. STICK to the list.
As we are organizing, keep your pantry and refridge clean and organized also. Keep sim, items together and put the new items toward the back.
Cook away with your new purchased foods and organized recipes. This wiil help keep us healthy and satisfied which in turn leads to being Happier..

weight loss truths

I think this is sort of of a recap but thought it worth while to quickly repeat. REMEMBER that weight loss is not easy and really not fast.
In order to loose weight, one really does have to exercise more than 30 minutes three times a week. You have to burn the calories, still do not give up the tried and true ways of walking, taking the stairs.
Do not think that exercise = as brownie. Even when you consistantly exercise, a person neds to watch the calories they consume and watch the type of food.
A person does have the time to exercise. Just make yourself do it. PRIORITIZE.
Eating more of something will not make you loose weight...this is a food industry hype. Do not fall for it. EAT LESS, not more
Calories in = calories out.. The empty calorie idea-remember this..500 cal of soda is not the same as eating 500 cal of fruit and veggies. WATCH the empty cal, chips, cookies, soda etc and focus on the nutrient calories.
Your body is working sagainst you..Oh NO please don't tell me this. YES, our bodies still have the idea of the harder times when we had to eat when we could and as much for the leaner times. NOT good for these times. WE can beat this idea by being diligent.
The other idea that is sooo preventlint in this day and age (enviroment) is THIN. A person does not have to be thin to be healthy. Let us all focus on good health!!
I feel the biggest goal in this day for all of us to remember, we are not on a diet. This is our life.
Life it but be concious of All your choices.

Where's the time?

American's are know to be in a RUSH asll the time. Just take vacation to Europe and see the differnce in time and schedules. All this over scheduling is taking a toll on our lives.
I have been thinking about this much since I am older and really want to have more time with my kids and grandkids. Came up with some thoughts I wanted to shsare.
Try to set a certain amount of time each day to do what you want. If you are like me, you will have to do this slowly but it is well worth the effort.
Take task and make them smaller time periods. A little bit of a project completted is better than nothing.
BUNDLE task, errands to budget your time and your trips.
AKS for help when needed or hire someone.
Do you really HAVE to this task? Think about this--takes a moment or two. Priorities?
Energy drainers...take a look-do you you have some these in your life? Do you really want to keep them around?
DO SOMETHING special at least once a week. What makes you happy. Might have to spend some time thinking about this. Women espcially tend to put themselves lower down on the list. It's called PLAY-do some of this at least once a week. Does a person good and it can be habit forming!!

Where's the TIME

EXERCISE/the hard facts

Or so they say. If you know me, you know that I am not a fan of exercise. I know that I need it, try to accomplish some during the week, but HEY! if I did not need to-I would not. I found this article and wanted to pass it on, help keep me going for another month anyway. A HABIT ( hardly yet but I am trying.)
Working out will probably always be hard. IT is tiring, makes muscle burn, maybe a little breathless. HEY it is work. We must keep at it in order to get stronger in heart, muscle, lungs. It's a challenge right?

Not every movement counts as exercise but do not let let this idea keep one from moving anyway...True exercise needs to last at least 10 continuous minutes, it needs to elevate your heart rate. Just because you exercised one day-does not make you champ. Keep it up.

Be aware of the actually calories you are burning in your exercise. Remember to be cautious as you calculate. ESTIMATE is the word. All activities are different and different amounts of calories.

EXERCISE does not allow a person to eat what you want at all times. You will not loose wight if you think this. Everyone consumes more calories that they can burn off.

YES my friends, a person really does have to do some kind of exercise forever if you wont to keep in shape and maintain your bones and your weight. So try to find something that you enjoy and keep the variety going.

IF you can let the gym either at home or at a facility become part of your life. It will be good for your health, mind and body. YES my friends we can do this--we must.

Healthy eating tip 6

Enjoy healthy fats and avoid unhealthy fats
One does need healthy fats to nourish your brain, heart and cells. Foods rich in omega-3 fats are important and can reduce cardio disease, improve mood and might help prevent dementia.
Try to add these healthy fats to your diet plant oils olive oil, as well as avocados nuts and seeds.
Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids call polyunsaturated fats are found in fish such as herring, salmon, mackeral. Can be found in walnut, soybean flax seed oils. I have found that I am depending on supplements to keep these going and trying slowly to incorporate the food.
WATCH red meat, whole milk margarine's, candy, cookies, snack foods, fried food and baked goods. All the great food we want to eat.

Healthy Eating tip 5

CARBS
I think people in general just love carbs. Unfortunately the carbs we most crave seem to be the unhealthy, fattening ones. Chips, crackers, pasta. What's a body to do. EAT the good ones
(whole grains)
They are rich in photochemical and antioxidants which help protect against heat disease, cancers and diabetes. Try to include the good carbs daily in your eating. Go slowly is just starting out on this new way of eating.
Healthy examples--whole grains, beans fruits and vegetables. They are digested slowly which makes you feel full longer.
Unhealthy-- white flour, refined sugar and white rice. They digest quickly and can cause spikes in blood sugar which is not good.

HEALTHY fast food meals

This might be hard to comprehend but YES, there are some foods that can be considered Healthy at fast food restaurant. I am going to just do a few at a time. Leave items open for any discussion.
McDonalds Honey mustard grilled snack wrap and Snack size fruit and walnut..470 calories.
Good portion of protein, iron and calcium
Fruit and maple oatmeal..290 cal two of the recommended daily servings of whole grain calcium and iron (but skipped the brown sugar).

Burger King: Hamburger with extra lettuce and tomato, small size french fries with no salt
Muffin sandwich210 calories) ham is better than sausage. Hold the honey butter sauce to slash the calories which cuts the fat by 60%.

Just remember that fast food in general is really not good for you but if one is going to partake-choose wisely.

the life you want

I wonder if anyone actually knows what kind of life they want to live. I feel so caught up in the day to day that I feel I am just existing. Then some days, I am really enjoying the whole day and whatever I am doing. Those are the good days.
The good days seem to be the ones when I stop and get off the roller coaster. ENJOY being yourself, whatever that may be. Get off the computer, get off the phone. Look at your surroundings which contain so many naturals wonders. Let your mind have a break and just wonder with your thoughts. I like to just walk in the neighborhood and not pay any attention to the where's or how's! Let the good memories roll. Good for the soul and the heart. Listen to your heart, the blood pumping and the natural sounds around. See the hope that is around, smell the sunshine or the rain. They both have a purpose. Don't worry about the supervisor, the mother, the wife, the diet. JUST BE. Reminds me of the Beatles song Let IT Be. We all need to this. Life is so stressful, we NEED to look at the good

health saying

I came across some funny health saying taking this class on the Unniversal Class. A great site it you have not discovered yet. ThoughtI would share some.
Eat what you don't want, drink what you don't like and do what you would rather not.
Quit worrying about your health, it will go away. (Have to digest this one)
A person's health can be judged by which he takes two at a time-pills or stairs.
GOOD HEALTH and good sense are two of life's greatest blessings.
Fond of doctors, little health, Fond of lawyers, little wealth.
WISDOM is to the soul what health is to the body.
Eat well, drink in moderation and sleep sound--in these good health abound.
This one I have taken on to be my new motto:
eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately, cultivate cheerfulness and maintain an interest in life. We can all relate to this message.

Diet tips

I am back to WATCHIMG my weight again and it is going up sooo, I need to be careful.
Found a website that gave me some tips for continuing healthcastle. I am sure we all know this but I feel that at this time for me, I need some re-enforcements
Eat at least five servings of fruits and veggies a day. Do any of us really do this?
Portion size: We all know that the portions we receive especially at a restaurant at just to big. I general am able to get two meals out of mine.
Do not skip a meal. I am finding that I can no longer consume just three big meals a day which is not good for a person anyway. I eat smaller bits at least 4 or 5 during the day.
Wholesome fresh foods. Avoid the processed, convenient packaged food are higher in sodium and fat. Bring your lunch, do not stop for Dunkin.
Treat yourself. Remember we are not on a diet, but a NEW eating plan, so give yourself a small portion of ice cream, one piece of candy or a cookie.
LABELS: the mystery of labels. One must really educate ourselves to these labels and make them our friends.
Drinks: water, eater. Again I say water. Watch the sugary drinks(they are not your friends).
Food journal. YES we need to keep a journal. I know that I tend to forget what I eat during the day. Writing it down at night wakes one up. (Might also help with spending)
EXERCISE, yes I know. Who am I to say this. Miss no exercise. I keep it in my mind (which does no good). We all know we need to exercise, so let us get to it. SPRING has arrived. Get outside. RIGHT!!

Frozen dinners

Oh no! you say not for me. But I feel that you can say yes to these quick time savers once in awhile. I have been reading some articles that agree with me. These meals have really come a long way from the days of TV dinners. They contain more nutrients, less fat and salt and
PORTION control. Did you think of that?
Quick and Easy
Vegetables
Single serving for the single person
Easy prep for those times when we are feeling down, sore, pain, disability.
More Economical than eating out but not for every day use.

From one article found in Sparks a dietitian gave these hints :
Try for taste. Not all frozen meals are created equally.
Beware of pot pies, Hungry Man, extra cheese.
Choose selections that contain source of protein-no more than 300-400 calories.
Watch the saturated fat and sodium content.
Add a side salad with low calorie dressing or fruit to add a nice extra touch and balance to your meal.
I have found that I am eating more of these meals in order to add some protein to my diet. As I have mentioned, I do add salad or fruit. This gives me a variety away from from my vegetables that I normally eat for lunch and dinner.

Time

that allusive item that we do not seem to have enough of. What can we do to help ourselves manage time.
Time audit: How do you really spend your time. Take a look at your schedule for at least a week. Evaluate the places you go and the time spent doing activities. Be honest. Are you running your life or is someone else? Combine and cut to be most effective.

To-do list:daily weekly, continuous with a calender or schedule. This list can be productive if used the correct way. Do not forget to prioritize the list.

Waste time: Don't! Bring something to do while waiting in the Dr's office, for practice to be over etc. Try to combine chores with watching the news or talking to friends.

Stock up:To avoid always running to the store, post office etc. keep items on hand. I like to keep nonperishable items in stock also. This way when making a recipe, or shopping the items are always handy.

SYSTEM: Whatever you are attempting to do-have a system. Really makes the process much easier and less time consuming. Use sticky notes to help all family members in the process.

Perfectionist: Don't (my favorite because I am not). I have found and I imagine some of you agree, that not everything has to be perfect. This idea is Way to hard to even think about. Do things the best that you can and then go on to the next chore.

No: the little word that is so hard to say. Focus on your goals especially the healthy ones and this word is not so hard to say. It could all be a matter of timing. Remember you are important. I find that I am the only one who can keep myself healthy in order to do the activities I truely want to do.
Don't you think that time management is really about managing yourself? I do. People really want to do what is important to them first and then fit in the other stuff. I feel this in turn will keep one on an even plain and happier in the long run.

Natural remedies

Old wives tales-whatever you might want to call them..they work. Found a great article in Woman's Day home remedies. Some of the Dr's are even suggesting these for those patients who are getting tired of antibiotics all the time. My children have admitted being told by Pediatrician that my ideas that I have suggested are not so radical. WOW.
Duct tape-I have actually not heard about this: removing warts, yes this has been proven that the duck tape plus a pumice stone to remove the dead skin. Maybe it suffocates the warts and the tape has an irritant that might make your own systems immune kick in.
Vapor rub...to cure nail fungus. OK this is another wild one-Using vapor rub once or twice a day has shown that it works according to patients, maybe it smothers the infected nail.
Oatmeal to soothe Eczema:Oats have anti-inflammatory properties. Try to soak the area for 15 minutes. Can be used as a paste or inn the bath. The oats reduce the redness.
Yogurt to cure bad breath: Bad breath can come from your or your stomach(i did not know this)
Yogurt can neutralize the bad breathe effect and the acid that lives anywhere between the mouth and the stomach. Now what do you think of this? I love yogurt
Olives for motion sickness: since I have all kinds of motion problems. Found this interesting but have not tried. This has to be done at the very beginning before the sickness starts. The olives are said to release tannins which work to help dry the saliva which in turns should help with the reaction of sickness.
Salt water for sore throat:The water helps draw out the fluid which temporary reduces swelling and the pain. Really does work but it is short lived like most other throat treatments. OFCOURSE it does nothing for the real problems whatever they are.

Some new tales to think about and some old ones. IF anyone tries one of these let us all on the blog know. Will make for an interesting discussion.

Goals

A little more on goals: Start small-little steps make the goals work PAPER Track yourself on paper, journal, paint a correct picture Habits The smallest of actions done daily or weekly become a habit. We want our new life style to become a habit one action at a time. SEE your goal: They need attention. Think about your goals, read your goals, write your goals-surround yourself with your goal. Consistence: Isn't this what we want to do all the time UGH. This gives us power to manage our goals and be productive. Setbacks: yes we all make mistakes. Do not let that get you down. We have to be our fan! Trust: one has put much thought into your goals and your plan. Trust that plan and trust yourself. Especially in the weight loss category-it takes time. The weight did not go on at once and will not come off that quickly either. HAVE fun!! YES, I really mean this. Since I have started my healthy eating, I am having fun. Not thinking about the eating and loosing. Let us think of this as a discovery. I hope these thought might be of use to you and yours especially if you are on the healthy journey with me.

Put yourself first

Now that is a statement. I am afraid that so many of us do not do this. I know that for many years, I was last. Life was in the way. Even though, I am basically a single woman now on my own..me does not always service first. The real FACT is we should take care of ourselves first in order to be of help to others. Sooner or later the old "burn out" is going to happen. I know so many others things happen; however MAKE the time. Believe it or not the other people in your life will appreciate what you are doing. Share what you are trying with the other members of you family and social unit. Being busy for the sake of being busy is really counter productive. Value: your emotional and physical health Schedule fun activities-laugh Try to do some combining of activities with fun and exercise Don't try to change every problem at once-going slowly will help you and others adjust to what you are trying One of the hardest things I have learned is "NO". Please believe that you do not have to the one who does everything at home, at work, or in your social life. Try to keep the balance.

goals

Probably this week might be dedicated to goals. Not sure yet but we will see. Today for sure Are you as person who puts off goals? too the ONCE land! Once the new year comes, once I have my new job...This seems to be a waste of time waiting for Once. Life seems to keep getting in our way when we are waiting-something will always stand in your way if a person lets this happen. Might these things be excuses! AH!! you say-the procastinator has arisen waiting for the future. Let us remember that a person can only act in the present-here today. So start your goals and/or continue your goals. The right time to start is now.

Goals

Sharing is achieving. I have not mentioned our goals lately. I seem to going up and down on keeping with my, so I am sharing, which has been said to help all who share. Just remember to pick a true friend, who will be supportive as well as truthful. Family..usually are very supportive to your healthy goals, especially if sharing with a partner who is also trying the healthy lifestyle. Avoid the nay sayers. When you come across someone who is consistently putting your ideas down, telling you how silly or unproductive, stop sharing. They truly are not going to be of any help. These people can still be friends just not in this matter. Be supportive and offer encouragement to your friends and family. "What goes around comes around." REALLY there is strength in numbers. Want to keep your friends, you have to return the favor. Fit your needs and goals into your life in varied ways. Once a person has voiced the goals to others, I feel you are more likely to continue to work on them. Hey the new goals might even become a new habit and be FUN!!!

Hardships

Yes, we all know that everyone of us experience some kind of hardships in our lives. Some more than others. I feel that the way we handle the hardships to be very fasinating to watch. Do you feel that handships can build character or to become bitter. Choose the choice of character and live a truly productive happy life. I have read somewhere that happiness and sadness don't happen to us it comes from within. As we live, we are writing the next chapter of our lives. It will be written weather we pasrticiapate or not. So lets us all try our best to be a help to our life instead of a hindrance.

Food and headaches

I know that there are foods that certainly cause headaches but I did not know that some foods can help. What a great idea so I am posting. Use as you might: Came from Woman's day mag Health and Healthy diet foods I am doing this quickly because it was a long article.. Baked potato:especially if the headache is from alcohol-related. It seems the potassium helps with this Watermelon (love this fruit) Helps with the dehydration which is one the major causes of headaches. Eating as a fruit or use in smoothie Coffee: now this is debatable. Java or the caffeine can help the blood vessels but to much is also a cause of headaches- therefore, be careful with this one. Whole grain toast:to little carbs might bring on a headache by depletion of glycogen and also fluid lose (dehydration). BE aware and reach for the good carbs which might even help with your mood. Almonds: I keep hearing about these wonder foods. I love almonds so I eat them regular anyway. Almonds area good source of magnesium which helps relax the blood vessels. Spicy Salsa: since these usually cause my headaches, I was surprised at this. Can help clear up congestion, and help with pressure. Yogurt: You might be calling for calcium so grab a yogurt. Sesame Seeds: Sprinkle them on salads, in your oatmeal or soups. These little seeds are just a great nutritional value food. rich in magnesium, vit E. Can also improve circulation which might help in prevention of headaches. This is amazing. I have trying this but can't comment yet.

Just for today

This is really great..I came across this from a on-line class I am taking-they took it from the guidelines of Al-anon. I shorten some it just so can get the idea-but the ideas is great. Just for today-I will live through this day only and not think about yesterday or brood about tomorrow. Just for today-I will be happy. No dwelling on depressing thoughts. Just for today- I will improve my mind by reading something that requires efforts. Just for today- I will make a conscious effort to be agreeable, to be kind, and to not speak ill of others. Just for today -I will do something to improve my health. Just for today- I will gather the courage to do what is right and take responsibility for my own actions. This is just so good. I have been passing it around to all my friends and co-workers.

Past to the present

I have heard many people say that our past paves the way to our future. What do you guys think of that statement? I think that sometimes we think that our lives have stalled when we become depressed or discourage. When you feel that way, take a deep breath-step back, and review what has already happen in your life. What a rollercoaster our life has been through your childhood, jumping into adulthood and rolling with the punches to whatever part of life you are in now. Would you answer the question "What do you want to be be when you grow up?" differently now than when you where younger. My life is very different than it was when I was in my 20-30's and not what I thought it would be at all. Think about your dreams then and compare them to now. Have you succeeded in obtaining them or are you still working on the dreams? I wish everyone your dreams and successes.

Fruits and vegetable

I am taking a new course in the Universal class.com on nutrition. Since I am talking about fruit and veggies this week, I wanted to pass on another bit of information about these "wonder foods" as I call them. When possible eat veggetables in the raw RINSE all veggies and fruit before eating, but do not soak the,. Microwaveing veggies looses fewer of the nutrients. However, if you boil or steam, keep the lid on to help retain nutrients. Steaming is another great method of cooking veggietables but use as little water as possible. Sir-fry can be an alternative way of prreparation. Cook with glass, stainless steel or enamel pots. Be warry of cooper-can destroy some of the nutrients. So let us all keep on eating these great foods to be good to ouselves.

Healthy eating tip of the week

Fruits and vegetables. If you have notice the new food prymamid, it is now color co-ordinated. Makes selection easy and it is more fun. The brighter the the better. Fruits and veggies might be called the foundation of a healthy diet-low in calories, packed with vitamins minerals antioxidants and fiber -wonder food.. GREENS: These veggies are packed with calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, zinc and vitamins. They help with the blood and respiratory system. Be adventurous. I do eat many veggies but am trying to be a little bolder and expand my preparation and eating of the other veggies in the world. Kale, mustard greens, Chinese cabbage are few of the veggies outside the box for me. What others are trying? Sweet vegetables:Naturally sweet vegetables and healthy sweetness to meals and might help reduce your sweet cravings. A couple examples of these interesting additions to your meal: corn carrots, beets yams, winter squash. I never thought of these being sweet but am giving them more of a try. Fruit: Vital to your diet. Provides fiber, vitamins and antioxidants. Shop fresh and local when possible but keep a variety going as much as possible. Come on healthy eaters and join in the fun of eating veggies and fruit. They can save the day.

What matters?

We have to be concious of what matters in life. Read a quote from Franics bacon about our bodies "A healthy body is a guest-chamber for the soul; a sick body is a prison."
We want to keep our bodies as guest-chamber. Let us be aware of the fragilness we all could be dealing with. Stress, sickness and even people can just run us over. We all must take a preventive approach to well being. As I keep saying: eat right, sleep well, exercise somehow on a regular basis. Deal with your emotions also to help keep all body functions running good.
Let us all try to stay healthy. Summer is coming!

To much organized

What a statement right? Can anyone be to organized. The answer is yes, if it takes over your life.
With all the technology out now, it seems everywhere one looks there is a note for us to something, be somewhere etc. Do not let all these devises run your life. FREEDOM, sometimes not when all this micro-organizations takes over. So pencil some time in for yourself. We humans have to have some time to play, relax, enjoy our friends and family. Be conscious of today--never know what tomorrow is going to bring.
Just learning that more of my friends have been diagnosed with cancer really makes this point.

Healthy eating tip 3

Healthy eating is not only about the food-it is also about how a person thinks about food. New eating habits can be learned. It is important to slow down and THINK about the nourishment you are putting into your body.
Eat with others when possible. It seems that most humans are social people. Eating can create a social and emotional environment with many benefits. Eating with your children creates a great family time and the time to be a model. Eating in front of TV or computer can lead to mindless eating.
CHEW CHEW and enjoy. No shoveling allowed. Savor the tastes and textures of the items that going into your mouth.
Listen to your body. Many nutritionists make the suggestion to have a glass of water before a meal. Stop eating before you feel full. Believe it or not, your brain has to have a few minutes to realize that the body is full.
Eat breakfast and eat smaller meals throughout. I have come to enjoy eating five to six meals a day instead of the standard three BIG ones. This new pattern keeps a persons energy up and the metabolism going.

Details

Are you a detail person. I can say that I am not. I am not a very organized person either but am working on that.
Having heard some disturbing news these last couple of days I have been thinking of the small things in life that Do make one's life enjoyable.
Do you get to see the sunset or sunrise? How about the big moon last Saturday night?
Are you the person that is taking everything for granted? Driving a car has become a source of stress rather enjoyable. Thought about the space shuttle lately? The Internet is old news to some of us.
Take some time to look around at the items that surround one daily. Think about the creations, ideas, thoughts and time that went into making these things.
How about nature. The wonders never stop when one considers nature.
Let us thank God for the creation of all--even the fact that we are alive is amazing.
This new thinking might make a person a little happy.

Hectic life

Yes, we all seem to be living a hectic whether we work, stay at home or are retired.
I have been doing more reading on this topic and with help of many nutrition articles, came up with some ideas to add to my daily routine. You might want to do the same.

DRINK water. Everywhere one goes this seems to be the one item that is always mention. Water is the all-purpose daily wonder substance AND none of us seem to drink enough.
Cut back on soda and coffee
Watch your sugar intake and replace when ever possible with a low sugar version.
Stock up on healthy take along snacks and bring them with you. This will help curb the soda machine, snack machine craving.
PLAN healthy meals. When a person gets into this habit, it does not take long. Then shop for the ingredients for you Healthy meals.
Yes, even purchasing ready-to-cook frozen foods are a great idea to keep a healthy variety in your meal planning.
Pack a lunch the night before
When making the healthy meals, try to cook a double batch. Great for lunches, and quick meals for another time in the week.
Walk, walk, walk--during your break, at lunch, after work. MOVE is the key.
Last but of course not least--sleep. This is another point that is always stressed in any article.

Herbs for immune system

Everyone I know seems to be getting
SOMETHING in the virus department. I feel like have been taking antibiotics for months. I have been trying to add some alternative sources to help my body get back into balance. By talking to my chiropractor, massage person and doing some reading I have come up with some ideas that I am going to share. REMEMBER that I am not an expert but have been using some of this items and feel that could be helping.
Always follow the manufactures dosage and direction on all these herbs...

American ginseng: might help prevent upper respiratory infections but need to be taken at the beginning of the cold season.
Echinacea: preventing and treating of colds and flu. Echinacea stimulates your own immune fighting cells.
Elderberry: dark blue-black elderberries a rich in the compounds that could disarm viruses.
Green tea: try to get into the habbit of drinking green tea regularly to help strengthen your immune system.

Remember that a person immune system never rests. As human beings we need to be constantly trying to help our body systems.
Try to be conscious of the food we consume by choosing immune boosting foods.
Remember to exercise
Try to reduce stress as much as possible
Sleep more
Treat infections promptly
Avoid toxins that impair our immune system and damage our cells. Toxins are everywhere, so this is a real challenge now a days. Add more organic foods into your meal planning. Look for the GREEN products and start using them in your daily activities.

These are some of things that I am trying to do-better to start even if I am on the older side of the picture.

Clutter 101

Yes, guys I finished my class on clutter. I am very inspired. The biggest challenge was my files, which I am still working on.
I really learned much from this class. Oranization skills, places to go for help.
Step by step ideas and how to start and continue with the projects. ONE big point of advice: It took a long time to get the way it is now messy, cluttered. Do not except to accomplish all the decluttering in one time frame. Many little jobs make up a whole. Many tries accomplish the task.
YES people we can all accomplish any amount of decluttering. Just keep on trucking by checking off the lists and it will happen.
I am sure I will come back to this subject.

Think before you speak

This is a totally different topic than I have touch on before. I am so bad at this that I just thought I would mention. Sometimes, I say things and wonder WHAT? I am trying to be real careful sat the grief meetings, since I am one of the older time frame people in my cycle. Been there, done that. Somethings work, somethings don't.
I found a cute saying dealing with this subject relating to nature.
a philosopher said "Nature gave us one tongue and two ears so we could hear twice as much as we speak". ALRIGHT. My new goal..
I know that I tend not to listen as much as I should. People are very challenging even in my line of work. Instead of trying to justify your feelings, LISTEN, speak planning and simply..then wait for a reply. Try to be an attentive and courtesy listener. You are not responsible to change the world, fix all the problems.
You want to be heard when you are talking so extend the same thoughtfullness. We might all be surprised at the results..

Healthy eating tip 2

Something happen to my last post, so I am trying again.
Moderation. Healthy eating is not an all or nothing process. I feel it is a slow process so we can develop habits. Think balance: protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals.
"OFF limits" is not the way to think. Think limit portion size , limit to once a day. Try to curve the cravings slowly and then they will not be so prominent in your mind.
Think small portions all around. At restaurant take part of meal home.
When at home use smaller plates and don't go for seconds.
USe the visual clues like deck of cards, teaspoon of salad dressing, bread size of cd or one small roll.

Shinning a llight

While I was reading a book from my mothers collection, I came across a great idea that most of do naturally. I hope anyway. Think what a warm feeling you get when a friend calls out of the blue or you recieved a card for not reason. Pass it on..send a note to someone you have not spoken to lately. All of us humans need encouragement at one time or another. Sometimes we do not even know it.
With all the turmoil on the otherside of the world, many of us are going to be having the blues. Our thoughts need to go out to Japan and to each other. Give a smile, a hug, a card a call. Reach out and spread a little sunshine. We will all be better for the process.

Tip of the WEEK???

Think of water and exercise as a food groups. These are both in the new Food
Pyramid.
Water is the flusher of waste and toxins. I have been told that I do not drink enough water which could be one of the causes of my low energy and headaches. I am unconsciously walking around in a dehydrated state.

Exercise: Be active as much as possible. The activity does not have to be what is called exercise. WALK, take the stairs, do some stretching at lunch. Even just standing and lift your arms is an activity. Breathing, which some of us do not do deeply enough. POINT is to Move the great body.

Healthy Eating

Besides taking a class on-line, I am reading many tips from Spark and toher sources. Find a great one from HELPGUIDE.org
Healthy eating tips. I a m going to break the ideas down into parts. Maybe some of you can find more information to add as we go along.
Set yourself up for success. We have talk about this, with the goal setting, exercising, so this might be a little of repeat.
SIMPLify: Think of the new eating plan we are undertaking as a color design, variety and freshness.
Focus on finding foods that you love and try to expand on these. Find new recipes, use fresh instead of frozen when veggies or fruits are in season.

START SLOW to make changes to your eating habits. Remember it takes time to change a habit. We all know that overnight is not going to happen. Small steps work better on anything we try. Go light salad dressing on the new colorful salad you are adding. Try a new veggie once a week and cook it different ways.

EVERY change you make is for the better. We do not have to perfect. Do not try and eliminate what you might consider "the bad food" all at once. IF you consider you missteps, just keep on trucking. Every healthy food choice counts.

Hand cream

I have been noticing that my hands have been really wrinkly this winter. According to an article from Dr Trusky, we should "treat our hands like fine china". I thought that was interesting, since I certainly do not do this. I sell Avon and have been using an anti aging hand cream, that is very thick. Like it very much. Unfortunately this hand cream was not on Dr list.
Here are some the ingredients that should be found in a GOOD cream...Silicone, Glycerol, and Petrolatum in jelly form. A hand cream needs at least all three of these elements.
So be on the look out friends...and be good to your hands.

Resolve

This post fits back into my happiness project.
This has been a tough month for youngest daughter and myself, but we made it through. Thank you lord. Sunday was a great day inmost ways, so there is some brightness in the horizon.
BE HAPPY and you might even benefit your body, mind and soul.
Think about a baby..how it tries to gain new knowledge. Always so happy when things are accomplished. Do we want to take a new step in the happiness project?

What do you truly believe? Tough question.
Do what you really want to do? Very interesting right? Hello happy, goodbye anger.

Move to your own music. Always like this saying. Take some thinking about what this would mean to each individual but worth thinking about.
Take responsibility for your own stuff, no blaming, forgive and move on.
Find what you are looking for in yourself before you go looking elsewhere. REMEMBER you are the only person who can truly make yourself happy beside God.

Why don't we digest this for awhile. I think I am doing entirely to much reading on this subject.
All post our welcome. We could get a good discussion going.

Listen

How many of us really do this? I would simple say not many of us. In business settings or personnel settings, the quite ones are the ones that are usually really listening and absorbing. I feel that I have used my time well spent when I do listen. One can hear new ideas and thoughts that others are presenting. Do not be the one who jumps into a conversation with advice. Listen to the friend first. Try to understand what the other person is really communicating. Maybe they just want to vent and do not need or want any advice.
These qualities will bring out the trust in your friends and co-workers. Might even be a good idea for leaders to think about this. This can bring more understanding and even happiness to your relationships, which is what we all want Right?

Diet Wall

Oh yes, I think that I have the mental wall of dieting. Lost some weight but have seem to have stopped. How does one handle this? Any ideas? Jump righ tin on the conversation.
I have a couple of ideas that I am going to try.
Press on-keep on tracking your food, weight, keep on exercising-moving.
Don't think to much just keep on doing what you have been doing. Pat yourself on the back for the good things.
Bribe yourself. This works for me.
Words-watch the negative words that you use. Think of the sucess not the failures.
Negotiate with yourself. Go to the next lbs, the next meal, the next snack. Keep small and simple but keep on going.
Positive is my new motto. Com and join me.

Muscle cramps

Hey do you guys get these awful cramps in the middle of the night. Brother I do and they hurt. If asnyone comees up with some good advice pass it on, I found an article in this group I am a memeber of SPark.
They seem to occur mostly in the leg area, at least mine do. Try to slowly stretch out before exercise, drink plently of fluid, be very warey in hot weather.
Breatiing deeply helps supply oxygen to the muscles.
When exercising slowly increase intensity. I have also noticed that walking helps me.
What can one do in the middle of the cramp. Rub the muscle-I sometimes even use the product called ICE. Gently stretch the area. Might even actually try ICE for 10 or 15 mints.
Avoid eating a heavy meal before working out.
I have been trying all kinds of these ideas but still am not controlling these darn things all the tiime.
How about you?

Love your body?!

Is this loaded question? No I am going to talk a little about your marveolous body. After watching the grammies, we probably all feel somewhat intimadated.
First let us stop picking on ourselves. There is probably something we all want to change about our bodies and hopefully things that we like. Focus on the things you like.
Consider the function: The body does million of little things all day long that we don't even think about that keep us going. So why are we so concerned with weight, the white teeth etc. Maybe we could think about our mind, our friends, hey even our family.
REAL: Don't believe what you see on TV. Even the so called non celebraty people have something done to them before going on TV. Think about this and discuss with your children. Help all of us realize what is real.
Dialogue: Let each of us choose to be good to ourselves. Talk the talk, walk the walk..the one for us. Act like you are good and you will be.
Take care of your body: The body is your greatest gift, but we sometimes treat it with great disrespect. Watch the diet pills, the red meat, the soda, coffee etc. Eat healthy. Think about what you put into body. Yes, we really only have one lifetime, so we should try to make the most of it by staying as healthy as we can.

Making life special

Stir it up. Do you kind of feel bored with the every day. I really most of us do especially this time of year. What can a person do? Why not do something different. Combine the everyday with some unexpected magic. If you have a hobby, try throwing in some kind of interest and share it. Find a personnel goal and combine with a social goal. Let us have fun with this idea. The stirring can be different for everyone, it is the process that will be fun to watch. Might even change you goals or your choices in some areas.

Eating together

I have been talking with my daughters about the benefits of family dinning. Not sure if I am getting through to them. Then I found this great article that directs a discussion about just this topic. I have given each daughter a copy and wanted to share a little with each of you. Feel free to jump into a discussion if you so desire.
One good reason..Communication..when the family sits down to eat, it gives a great opportunity to ask about the day, make plans for the weekend, catch up with activities, school etc. TALK- an idea that many families do not seem to embrace.
Manners..lead by example. Show to be polite, chew food, not talk with mouth full etc.
Expand the child's world..TRY new foods. Even just a taste will help expand the taste buds. Buy a new vegetable together, try a new recipe and let the child help with preparation.
Nourish: Foods prepared and eaten at home are more nutritious. Also at home soda and sweetened beverages are less likely to be offered.
Self-sufficient: It seems to be anyway that today's children are missing out on the idea of meal planning and preparation. Even to the point of helping with setting of table, pouring beverages, and clean-up. Chores what an idea..;the food just doesn't magically appear in front of you. Make dinner time a team effort showing responsibility and acceptance of the meal.
Grades: now listen up to this one. I did not make this up. Children do better in school when they dine with the family.
Money: Meals prepared at home cost less--two to four times less. WOW! What a great way to save money and get the family back together.
Let's do this young families.

Beat the flu?

Yes you can. L have been doing some reading and found a great article that gives us some great ideas to this (by B Hand who is a licensed dietitian.
Before
the power of eating produce. YES plant food contain natural fighting compounds.
Exercise: I know some of us are not found of this word but it is so important. We want our T celss to do their job.
Healthy lifestyle- do not smoke, sleep 7-8 hours eat right
GERMS wash hands frequently, do not share cups
WATER WATER keep on drinking

AFTER
Feed a cold, starve a fever-neither really, Just follow your stomach
Drink fluids
Vit C 250 mill each day
Chicken soup, yes this is really true. No one is really sure how or why but it does show that this soup does work
Garlic may help stimulate the immune system
Echinacea a herb which is a natural immune enhancer
RELAX and rest. Do not push yourself when sick. It will only prolong the flu or cold and also will spread the systems no matter how careful one is.

Forgiveness

Now this little word should give one pause for thought. All humans probably need to forgive someone and also themselves. Forgiveness does create a cycle, positive hopefully.
Holding grudges does not produce a good attitude and can be harmful. Bitterness can lead to hatefully thoughts which might sour your own life and cause stress.
Your best bet all around is to clear the air-either verbally or by writing a note expressing your point of view. The person might not even know you are having any trouble thoughts their way.
Get past the events so you can live feeling more free.
Try it out if you are stuck in any kind of trouble relationship.

Diet-friendly Alcohol

Yes, sound funny? but can be true. Great article from L Beeattie. One must be careful no matter what or when you decide to drink. I am just going to briefly set the tone for the article. You can do some research if it so intrigues you.
Wine the most friendly choice most only 20 calories.
Hard liquor Easy on diet the lowest calorie wise seems to be Vermouth. The rest from Rum to Cognac are in the high 60 to 70 calories depending on size of shot.
BEER Raise your glass. The best bet for the quantity 150 cal for 12 oz.--light beer is even better.
Liqueur: small but potent. They pack a BIG punch with about 155 cal for 1.5 oz serving.
If you budget your calories you can afford a drink or two on special occasions.
These are not hard core facts but just some interesting reading and thinking material.

Stewardship

I'm a little early, but I hope to talk about taking care of our earth next week.
Reduce, reuse and recycle, the words we keep hearing lately. Sound great, but are we as a nation really do this. Even as an individual? I truly hope so.
Think about this..do you litter?- probably not anymore. Do you drive your own car instead of carpool? Most likely-no one wants to a slight bit inconvenienced.
Do you buy green products..that probably is a sometime. I know That these products tend to cost more but I am truly saying the money is worth the effort.
THINK about what our earth is going to be like in 50 years. We wont be around but our children and grandchildren will. What are we leaving for them to deal with?
Set a good example for them..eat healthy, use healthy products, recycle as much as possible.
Show appreciation of nature-take walks, go camping, enjoy the outdoors instead of TV, phones Disney world etc.
THINK of the world as a community shared by past generations and future generations. Let us try to leave them with something besides "clean-up". IT will make you happy.

Finances

I usually shy away from posting anything about money; however I saw this great article in the phamplet I get from my bonds. It talks about "Cleaning up your portfolio..
SOme good ideas. Briefly here goes::
Review your most recent statement to do some comparisons with your goals. Probably at the moment you are off track but do not panic . Watch..and be patient.
Get rid of small accounts
Simplify your accounts-try to minimize the number of accounts.
The over all goals of money management in my mind anyway seem to improve long-term performance and reduce risk.
